Ponyboy meant when he said the Socs were "reeling pickled" was that they were drunk and if they jumped them, there wouldn't be a good outcome for them.

The major event that happens in this chapter is when Ponyboy and Johnny get jumped by 5 Socs and when Ponyboy almost drowns, Johnny kills Bob; a handsome Soc.

The author forshadowed that Johnny would use his knife in Chapter 2 was when they said that if he ever got jumped again after the night before, he would use his switchblade to protect himself.

My advice to Johnny and Ponyboy if they'd come to me for help instead of Dally would be to turn themselves in because if they turned themselves in sooner, they wouldn't get into more trouble. Also if they turned themselves in instead of running away from their problem they could not get into alot of trouble and maybe get a couple months sentence in jail instead of a death sentence.
